Anglesey 29th July Race Results

Result written by Kerry

An eventful day’s racing at Anglesey on Sunday 29 July 2007. A roller coaster meeting with as many lows as highs. The FJ’s entered into both Powerbike & Forgotten Era (FE) races so plenty of opportunity to watch trackside. Phil & Liam use the powerbike races as extra track time, warm up & fun before the FE races. The day was a grueller for our FJ race team with the powerbike & FE races being back to back it meant coming down pit lane after powerbike and rejoining for FE.

So powerbike was first up, which is always very entertaining to watch with the FJ’s amidst all the more modern machines especially as they constantly run mid pack therefore battling and beating alleged better bikes. Phil finished the 6-lap race in 13th place with a lap time of 1:18.659 at an average of 70.93mph, unfortunately Liam’s transponder wasn’t working so no stats were available but he wasn’t far behind.

Next was the FE race, Phil’s FJ launched forward then stalled, once the others were off the line the marshals ran to his aid but after the most pathetic attempt at a bump start I’ve every seen, he was pushed off track back to the pit wall. With nothing we could do till after a pee’d off Phil now joined us to cheer Liam. The leaders came through and to our surprise Liam was in 2nd behind Dennis and visibly catching. I turned away for a moment, then back to the sight of an FJ on its side in the grass and another pee’d off FJ racer walking away towards the tyre wall.

The next powerbike race, was 8 laps. Phil ended the race in 15th but with a quicker lap time/speed of 1:17.591 at 71.91mph. Liam (pain and all) heroically rode to 22nd with a best lap of 1:22.774 at 67.41mph.

The final FE Championship 8 lap race. Due to them both ending the pre-race with DNF’s they were at the back of the grid, with Phil the very last rider!! Now Liam was in quite a battle for 6th with another rider as they caught a back marker who unfortunately got in the way, resulting in the other rider battling with Liam taking him out. Liam was spotted gesturing at the other fallen rider so he was OK. Phil pulled the cat out of the bag to produce the fastest lap of the race and FE lap record on lap 7 (of 8) at 1:16.200 (73.22mph) to overtake, yes! overtake Dennis for 2nd place.

So with the racing over for another day, it was back to the FJ paddock tent with mixed emotions to check on Liam and congratulate Phil. It was a strange situation to be in when they both returned, with pleasure for Phil and pain for Liam it was a difficult to know how to react but with Liam uninjured again and his FJ repairable he joined in the banter so normality returned. So here’s to 29/30 September (FE is not competing in August as advertised) and I’m looking forward to it already. See you there!
